2 1901 Gregorio T. Velazquez was born in Calumpit, Bulacan. He was named National Scientist in 1982 for his studies in Philippine phycology.
2 1945 Surrender of General Yamashita in Kiangan, Ifugao Province
2 1945 Formal end of the war with Japan.
3 1898 La Independencia, the organ of the revolution, was founded by Antonio Luna.
4 1884 Spanish Penal Code made applicable in the Philippines.
5 1976 Inauguration of the Philippine International Convention Center
6 1834 The entire Philippines was opened to world trade.
6 1916 Francisco Arcellana was born in Manila. He was named National Artist for literature in 1990.
7 1946 Tayabas was renamed Quezon Province by virtue of Republic Act no. 14
7 2019 Sto. Tomas municipality in Batangas Province becomes a city after voters voted yes in a plebiscite.
8 1954 Establishment of the Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) in Manila.
9 1878 Birth of President Sergio Osmena in Cebu City.
9 1884 Quintin Babila Paredes was born in Bangued, Abra. He was speaker in 1933 and senate president from March 5, 1952 to April 17, 1952.
10 1898 Publication of the first American daily newspaper in Manila: The American Soldier.
10 1971 Qurino Province was created through Republic Act 6394
11 1917 Birth of President Ferdinand Marcos in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte
12 1896 Execution of the 13 Cavite Martyrs from whom the the City of Trece Martires in Cavite got its name
12 1913 Gerardo de Leon was born in Manila. He was named National Artist in 1982 for cinema.
12 2007 Sandiganbayan renders decision finding Joseph Ejercito Estrada guilty of plunder beyond reasonable doubt.
12 2013 President Aquino signs Republic Act No. 10625 or Philippine Statistical Act of 2013 to merge all the agencies that deals with Philippine statistics.
13 1903 Birth of Amado Hernandez in Tondo, Manila. He was a National Artist for Literature
13 1957 Birth of President Bongbong Marcos
14 1815 End of the Galleon Trade between the Philippines and Mexico
15 1898 Opening of the Malolos Convention in Malolos City, Bulacan.
16 1807 The people of Piddig, Ilocos Norte rose in arms against the Spaniards in defense of their Basi.
16 1907 Geminiano T. De Ocampo was born in Malolos City, Bulacan. He was conferred National Scientist Award as an opthalmologist.
16 1991 Philippine Senate voted 12-11 to reject renewal of US Subic Naval Base treaty.
17 1935 The first national election was held in the Philippines to elect president and vice-president of the Commonwealth Government.
17 1937 Filipino women’s right of suffrage was legalized in the Philippines.
17 1973 Effectivity of Republic Act No. 6397 which provided for the creation of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
18 1891 The second novel of Jose rizal, El Filibusterismo, is printed in Ghent, Belgium.
18 1904 Birth of Tomas Cloma – Founder of PMI Colleges, Inc.
19 1910 Birth of former Senate President Arturo Tolentino
20 1763 Gabriela Silang was executed in Vigan City.
21 1972 President Ferdinand Marcos issued Presidential Decree 1081 placing the entire country under martial law.
22 1762 British fleet, numbering 13 ships, entered Manila Bay and demanded the Surrender of the city.
23 1762 British soldiers started attacking Manila.
24 1894 Birth of Jose Yulo in Bago City, Negros Occidental, Speaker of the National Assembly and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
24 1934 Birth of Senator Edgardo Angara (senate president 1993 – 1995)
25 1813 Spanish King Ferdinand VII abolished the Galleon Trade between Manila and Acapulco, Mexico.
26 1945 Catanduanes declared a province by Commonwealth Act 687
26 2009 Typhoon Ondoy swept over Metro Manila and nearby provinces bringing torrential rains that flooded wide areas, killing hundreds, and displacing millions of residents. Considered one of the worst calamities to happen in the Philippines.
27 1865 General Miguel Malvar was born in Santo Tomas, Batangas.
28 1901 Massacre of Balangiga, Eastern Samar whereby the Americans suffered their worst defeat at the hands of the Filipinos led by General Vicente Lukban.
28 1910 Birth of President Diosdado Macapagal in Lubao, Pampanga
29 1898 The declaration of Philippine Independence was ratified at the Malolos Convention.
29 1904 Birth of Juan Salcedo Jr. in Pasay City, Metro Manila. – He was named National Scientist in 1978.
30 1931 Dolores A. Ramirez was born in Calamba City, Laguna. She was named National Scientist in 1997 for her work in the field of genetics.
