Davao Del Norte History
The history of Davao Del Norte is tied to the history of the undivided Davao Province which was under the Department of Mindanao and Sulu during the early part of the American rule and the district of Davao under the Spanish regime. On May 8, 1967, Davao was divided into three provinces: Del Norte, Del Sur and Oriental through Republic Act No. 4867. On January 31, 1998, several towns of Davao Del Norte were separated to create the province of Compostela Valley.

Economy of Davao Del Norte
Being the foremost producer of banana for export, the province of Davao Del Norte is considered the “Banana Capital of the Philippines”. Other agricultural products are rice, corn, cacao, and coffee.
Davao Del Norte is home to a privately-owned deep-water container port used primarily for exporting bananas and other local products. Because it is adjacent to Davao City with its almost two million inhabitants, the province has a ready market for locally grown fruits and vegetables and home-made products.
