History of Balasan

The town of Balasan grew out of the settlement called Badiang in the middle of the 19th century. In 1920, the towns of Carles, Estancia and Batad became independent of Balasan.

Economy of Balasan

Balasan is an agricultural town where rice and fish are the main products. At the town center called Poblacion, commercial activities such as trading and services are found. A large shopping mall owned by the Gaisano Group was recently inaugurated. Manufacturing is limited to small scale production of handicrafts and processed food, repair of furniture and machineries as well as tailoring and hollow block making.
