On this day, September 20 in the year 1954, the inventor in more than 70 patents was born in New York, United States. His name is Henry Samueli, the co-founder of Broadcom, an American semiconductor company. According to forbes.com, his net worth is $3.9 billion as of August, 2017.
Henry Samueli was the son of Polish immigrants who settled in Buffalo City, New York but later moved to California where they established a liquor store in Los Angeles. He received his bachelor’s degree as well as his Master’s degree and PhD from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), all in the field of electrical engineering. After graduation, he went to work for TRW where he was in-charge of military communication systems. Later, he transferred to PairGains Technologies as chief scientist.
In 1991, while teaching at UCLA, Henry co-founded Broadcom with his former student Henry Nicolas. The company is a manufacturer of a wide range of products used in the wireless and broadband communication industry. In 1998, the company was listed on the stock exchange. In 2015, Singapore-based Avago Technologies agreed to purchase Broadcom for $37 billion and renamed itself Broadcom Ltd.
In 2005, Henry Samueli and his wife purchased Anaheim Ducks hockey team for $70 million. According to forbes.com, the team is now worth $350 million.
Henry Samueli has three children with his wife Susan. He has already donated millions of dollars to the UCLA School of Engineering and Applied Science and also to the University of California at Irvine School of Engineering.
