10/27/2026 (Tuesday) Today’s gospel reading: Luke 13:18-21

18 Jesus said, “What is the Kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?
19 It is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and ‘the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.’”
20 Again he said, “To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God?
21 It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.”

10/27/2026 (Tuesday) Today’s gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Luke 13:18-21

Theme: Small Beginnings, Great Transformations

Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a tiny mustard seed that grows into a large tree and to a small amount of yeast that spreads throughout a batch of dough. Through these simple images, Jesus teaches us that God’s work often begins in small and humble ways but can produce wonderful and extraordinary results.

L – Little Things Can Make a Big Difference

We often dream of doing great things, achieving remarkable success, and making a lasting impact on the world. However, we sometimes overlook the little things that make life meaningful. A simple prayer, a sincere smile, a kind word, or a small act of generosity may seem insignificant, but these can become instruments of God’s love.

Never underestimate what you can do today simply because it seems small. A seed does not become a tree overnight, and a beautiful life is not built in a single day. Every good decision, every act of kindness, and every moment of faith contributes to something greater. God can use our smallest offerings to accomplish something beyond our imagination.

I – Invest in What Truly Matters

A seed grows because it is planted in the soil, while yeast works when it is mixed into the dough. In the same way, faith becomes fruitful when we put it into practice.

It is not enough to say that we believe in God; we must allow our faith to influence our choices, relationships, and daily actions. We invest in what matters when we spend time with God, forgive those who hurt us, help people in need, and remain honest even when dishonesty seems easier.

Let us not spend our lives investing only in wealth, recognition, and personal achievements. These things may have value, but a heart filled with love, a life guided by faith, and a soul willing to serve others have a deeper and more lasting worth.

K – Keep Growing Despite Difficulties

Growth takes time. Seeds must endure changing weather, and dough needs time for the yeast to work. Similarly, our spiritual journey will not always be easy. There will be disappointments, unanswered prayers, painful experiences, and moments when we wonder whether we are making any progress.

But do not give up simply because you cannot see immediate results. God may be working in ways you do not yet understand. Every difficulty can teach patience, every failure can offer wisdom, and every trial can strengthen your character.

Remember that growth is not always visible. Sometimes, before God changes our circumstances, He changes our hearts. Be patient with yourself, remain faithful, and trust the process.

E – Encourage Others Through Your Example

The mustard tree provides shelter for birds, while yeast influences the entire batch of dough. These images remind us that genuine growth should benefit others.

When you become more loving, you make your family stronger. When you become more patient, you bring peace to difficult relationships. When you remain hopeful during challenging times, you inspire others not to surrender to despair.

You do not need to be famous, wealthy, or powerful to influence the world. Your example may be the encouragement someone needs to continue living, believing, and hoping. Let your presence bring comfort, your words bring inspiration, and your actions reveal God’s goodness.

The Kingdom of God grows through small beginnings, faithful hearts, and lives surrendered to His purpose. Never despise your humble beginnings, and never believe that your contribution is too small.

Be like the mustard seed: grow patiently. Be like the yeast: influence others positively.

Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can. With faith in God and love in your heart, even the smallest beginning can become a beautiful testimony of His transforming power.
