10/28/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reflection, sermon, homily: Luke 6:12-16

Theme: The Power of Prayer in Choosing Our Path

Jesus spends the entire night in prayer on a mountain before choosing twelve men to become His apostles. Among them are fishermen, an ordinary tax collector, and even Judas Iscariot, who would eventually betray Him. Before making an important decision, Jesus turns to the Father. This reminds us that prayer is not merely a religious activity; it is an essential part of living according to God’s will.

P — Pause and Listen to God

Our world is full of noise. We are surrounded by opinions, responsibilities, expectations, and worries that compete for our attention. Sometimes, we become so busy solving our problems that we forget to seek the wisdom of the One who knows what is best for us.

Jesus teaches us the importance of pausing in God’s presence. Before choosing His apostles, He withdrew from the crowd and spent the night in prayer. If Jesus made time for prayer, how much more should we?

We do not always need to speak when we pray. Sometimes, we simply need to become still and allow God to guide our hearts. When we pause and listen, we begin to recognize the difference between what we want and what God may be calling us to do.

R — Rely on God’s Wisdom

We often make decisions based on our emotions, personal preferences, or what seems convenient. However, what looks good today may not necessarily be good for our future. That is why we need God’s wisdom.

Jesus did not choose His apostles carelessly. He prayed before making His decision. This reminds us that important choices deserve careful discernment. Before accepting a responsibility, beginning a relationship, changing direction, or making a difficult decision, we should ask God for wisdom.

Prayer does not mean that every answer will come immediately. Sometimes, God guides us through Scripture, wise counsel, unexpected opportunities, or the quiet conviction of our hearts. We may not understand everything, but we can move forward with greater confidence when we place our decisions in His hands.

A — Accept God’s Calling

Jesus chose twelve apostles, each with a different personality, background, and weakness. They were not perfect men, yet Jesus called them to participate in His mission.

This gives us hope. God does not call us because we are already perfect. He calls us because He sees what His grace can accomplish in us.

Perhaps God is calling you to serve your family with greater patience, forgive someone who hurt you, encourage a discouraged friend, or use your talents to help your community. Do not immediately disqualify yourself because you feel unworthy or unprepared.

Your calling may not be visible to everyone, but it can still make a meaningful difference. When God invites you to serve, respond with humility, courage, and a willing heart.

Y — Yield to God’s Will

Prayer is not simply asking God to fulfill our wishes. It is also learning to surrender our plans to His greater purpose.

The apostles did not know everything their journey with Jesus would involve. Likewise, we cannot predict every challenge that awaits us. Nevertheless, we can choose to trust God even when the road ahead is uncertain.

Yielding to God does not mean abandoning responsibility. It means doing our part faithfully while allowing Him to direct our steps. When doors close, we remain hopeful. When difficulties arise, we remain steadfast. When our plans change, we continue searching for God’s purpose.

Let us remember that prayer prepares our hearts before God opens the next chapter of our lives. Before we act, let us pray. Before we decide, let us seek His wisdom. Before we serve, let us receive His grace.

May PRAY become more than a word we remember. May it become a way of life: pausing to listen, relying on God’s wisdom, accepting His calling, and yielding to His will.
