Life Prior to Showbiz
Coco Martin was formerly an overseas foreign worker (OFW). He worked as a janitor in Alberta, Canada.
Showbiz Career
Coco Martin started out in the entertainment industry in 2001 as part of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 9 together with the likes of Heart Evangelista, Hazel Ann Mendoza, and Alwyn Uytingco. His career did not take off so he took odd jobs including working in a restaurant. In 2004, German Moreno admitted him to be one of the stars in his night time show Walang Tulugan. The following year, he was discovered by Director Brillante Mendoza and gave him a leading role in the indie film Masahista. The success of Masahista and his subsequent indie films caught the eyes of ABS-CBN’s big shots and once again, Coco reentered the network’s ground. Since then, it was success after success for Coco.
Coco Martin was first introduced in films via Luv Text where he played a minor role as Ivan’s friend. At that time he was still using his real name Rodel Nacianceno. This was followed by forgettable appearances in Lakas at Pag-ibig and Ang agimat: Anting-anting ni Lolo. Then there was a lull in his showbiz career until he was discovered by Director Brillante Mendoza and gave him a leading role in the award-winning indie film Masahista.
In 2015, the network rolled out FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano top-billed by Coco. Its huge success has cemented Coco Martin’s reputation as the “King of Philippine Television”.

This film was directed and produced by Coco Martin with himself as Flavio Batungbakal III in the starring role. It is an epic-fantasy movie based on the Carlo J. Caparas Comic book. The film was an official entry to the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival.
2016 – The Super Parental Guardians
This is an action comedy film with Coco martin playing the role of Neil “Paco” Nabati and Vice Ganda as Arci. Both acted as parental guardians to two kids whose real parents met untimely death. 2016 – Padre de Familia
An independently-produced film, it tells the story of a broken family whose father and then son, worked as overseas workers. Nora Aunor played as the mother, Coco Martin acted as the son who was forced to work overseas when his father went missing, and Julia Montes performed as the girlfriend of Coco.
2015 – Beauty and the Bestie
An official entry to the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival, this film was directed by Wenn Deramas and starred by Vice Ganda, Coco Martin, James Reid, and Nadine Lustre. It is a comedy film about two people, a beauty pretender (Vice Ganda) and his best friend (Coco).
2015 – You’re My Boss
Directed by Antoinette Jadaone, this film tells the story of two pretending executives (Coco Martin and Toni Gonzaga) who must negotiate a business deal with a Japanese businessman.
2014 – Feng Shui 2
Feng Shui 2 is a horror film directed by Chito Rono and starred by Kris Aquino and Coco Martin. This is Star Cinema’s official entry to the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Coco Martin was a special participant in this romantic movie top-billed by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. A Star Cinema offering, the movie was all about the different love stories portrayed by an ensemble cast.
2012 – Sta. Niña
This film was produced and starred by Coco Martin using his real name Rodel Nacianceno as producer. It tells the story of the remains of Paulino’s (Coco Martin) 2-year-old daughter who was unearthed in a Pampanga quary. The remains was believed to be miraculous. This movie was an official entry to Cinemalaya 2012.

A Star Cinema offering, this is the story of a love-hate relationship of Rex and Joey (played by Coco Martin Angeline Quinto respectively).

This is a drama film about the lives of the victims of the Dos Palmas kidnapping that occured in Palawan on May 27, 2001. Directed by Brillante Mendoza and starred by Isabelle Huppert, the film was screened at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival.

Sa’yo Lamang is a religious family drama directed by Laurice Guillen and top-billed by Christopher de Leon and Lorna Tolentino. Coco Martin played their second child.
2010 –Noy
This movie is about the story of Noy (Coco Martin), a fake photo-journalist who was assigned to cover the presidential campaign of Benigno Aquino III. The film was submitted to the 83rd Academy Awards as the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film but it was not shortlisted.
2009 – Soliloquy (Byaheng Lupa)
This movie mimics life as a kind of departure and destination. It shows some individuals with different backgrounds getting on and getting off the bus travelling from Manila to the provinces. Coco Martin plays the role of a troubled son who must decide whether to find work in the province or stay in Manila to care for his sick mother.
2009 –Kinatay (Butchered)
Coco Martin plays the role of Pepeng, a criminology student who accidentally received drug money. The film was premiered at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival where it won the Best Director Award for Brillante Mendoza, the first Filipino to receive such award.
2008 – Next Attraction
A film by Raya Martin that tells the story of a young man who runs away from home only to find himself attracted to another man. This film is the second collaboration of Coco Martin and Paolo Rivero. It is an official entry to Dekada Cinemanila in 2009.
2008 – Tiltil
Directed by Neal “Buboy” Tan, the movie is about the sexual molestation of of three daughters by their father. The daughters work in a local quarry as stone tillers.
2008 – Jay
Directed by Francis Xavier Pasion, this film is about the story of two Jay’s, both homosexual. One is a professor who was murdered and the other is a TV producer. Coco Martin plays the boyfriend of Professor Jay.

Directed by Adolf Alix Jr., this indie film intricately weaves the predicament of Jason (Jiro Manio) who desperately wanted to buy a drum, Billy (Coco Martin) who also desperately needs money to support his girlfriend who got pregnant, and Pablo (Sid Lucero) who is kickout from his apartment after having sex with the married landlady.

Coco Martin plays a supporting actor in Batanes, top-billed by Iza Calzado and Ken Chu of Taiwan’s F4. Directed by Adolf Alix Jr., the movie follows the life of a Manila girl who left the city to live with his husband in the northern Philippine island of Batanes where she would eventually meets the Taiwanese after her husband’s death.

This film is about Iliac (Coco Martin), one of the masseurs in a run-down massage parlor who gives massage services to gay patrons. He goes home to Pampanga and finds out his bedridden father is already dead. This is the first movie of Coco Martin in the starring role.
