Life Prior to Showbiz
Coco Martin was once an overseas foreign worker (OFW) in Alberta, Canada, working as a janitor.
Coco Martin started out in the entertainment industry in 2001 as part of ABS-CBN’s Star Circle Batch 9 together with the likes of Heart Evangelista, Hazel Ann Mendoza, and Alwyn Uytingco. His career did not take off so he took odd jobs including working in a restaurant. In 2004, German Moreno admitted him to be one of the stars in his night time show Walang Tulugan.
The following year, he was discovered by Director Brillante Mendoza and gave him a leading role in the indie film Masahista. The success of Masahista and his subsequent indie films caught the eyes of ABS-CBN’s big shots and once again, Coco reentered the network’s ground. Since then, it was success after success for Coco. In 2015, the network rolled out FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano top-billed by Coco. It’s huge success has cemented Coco Martin’s reputation as the “King of Philippine Television”.

Coco Martin was first introduced in the movies via Luv Text where he played a minor role as Ivan’s friend. At that time he was still using his real name Rodel Nacianceno. This was followed by forgettable appearances in Lakas at Pag-ibig and Ang agimat: Anting-anting ni Lolo. Then there was a lull in his showbiz career until he was discovered by Director Brillante Mendoza and gave him a leading role in the award-winning indie film Masahista.
Coco Martin received his first Best Actor award in 2006 given by the Young Critics Circle for his sterling performance in the movie Masahista. To date, he has already garnered over a hundred awards and nominations including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Performance by an Actor in a Lead Role, Best Director, Actor of the Year, Pop TV Character of the Year, Best Ensemble Performance in a Television Drama, Presidential Jury Award for Excellence in Acting, Promising Male Box Office Star, Most Admired Male TV Personality, Male Star of the Night, Leading Man of the Year, Special Jury Prize, and most recently the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award Recipient.
