Chumphon Province: Profile, Tourist Spots

Chumphon Province is one of the provinces in the southern region of Thailand. It is bounded on the north by Prachuap Khiri Kan, on the east by the Gulf of Thailand, on the south by Surat Thani, on the west by Ranong and Myanmar.

Located 465 kilometers south of Bangkok, Chumphon Province has a total land area of 6,009.0 km2 and an estimated population of more than 498,000 in 2015. Topography consists of coastal plains and mountains in the western section of the province. The main river is the Lang Suan River. Kra Isthmus, the narrowest part between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea is located in the province. There have been plans to build a canal here but the project remains a plan. Several touristic islands belong to Chumphom.
