Sakon Nakhon Province is one of the provinces in the northeastern region of Thailand. It is bounded on the north by Bueng Kan, on the east by Nakhon Phanom, on the south by Mukdahan and Kalasin, and on the west by Udon Thani.
Located 650 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, Sakon Nakhon has a total area of 9,605.8 km2 and an estimated population of more than 1.1 million in 2015. Topography is mostly flat lands with some mountains in the south. The Nong Han lake, near the city (Mueang), is the biggest natural lake of northeast Thailand.
Major products are rice, fish and fruits.
