10/22/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reading: Luke 12:49-53
Jesus said to his disciples:
49 “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!
50 There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!
51 Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.
52 From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three;
53 a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Theme: Let the Fire of Christ Transform Your Life
Jesus speaks about bringing fire to the earth and the division that His mission may cause. His words remind us that following Him is not always comfortable. Faith can challenge our old ways, confront our wrong decisions, and even create disagreements among people we love. Yet through these challenges, Jesus invites us to embrace a faith that transforms our hearts and gives us the courage to stand for what is right.
Let us use the word FIRE as our guide to living a transformed Christian life.
F – FAITH THAT BURNS WITH CONVICTION
Faith is more than attending Mass, praying every day, or knowing the teachings of the Church. True faith is a fire that burns within us, inspiring us to live according to God’s will. It gives us courage to speak the truth, defend the weak, forgive those who hurt us, and choose goodness even when doing so is difficult.
Sometimes, our faith will be tested by the opinions of others. People may misunderstand our decisions or disagree with our principles. But when our hearts are firmly rooted in Christ, we learn not to compromise our values just to gain approval. We must remain loving and humble while standing faithfully for what we believe.
I – INNER TRANSFORMATION
Before we can change the world around us, we must allow Christ to change the world within us. The fire of His presence should burn away our pride, jealousy, selfishness, dishonesty, and hatred. It should awaken in us a deeper desire to become better persons.
We sometimes pray for God to change our circumstances, our families, or the people who cause us pain. But perhaps the first change God wants to accomplish is within our own hearts. Instead of asking only why others behave badly, let us examine our own attitudes and actions.
A transformed heart becomes a source of peace, understanding, and encouragement. When Christ changes us from within, His light begins to shine through everything we do.
R – RESOLVE TO FOLLOW CHRIST
Following Jesus requires commitment. There will be moments when doing the right thing means standing alone. We may face criticism when we refuse to participate in dishonest practices, defend someone who is being treated unfairly, or choose forgiveness instead of revenge.
Even within families and friendships, people may disagree about faith, values, and life choices. Jesus reminds us that loyalty to God must remain our highest priority. This does not mean we should deliberately create conflicts or treat others harshly. Rather, we must remain faithful to Christ while continuing to show patience, respect, and love toward everyone.
Real courage is not the desire to win every argument. It is the determination to do what is right without losing the goodness in our hearts.
E – EMBRACE THE FIRE OF RENEWAL
Fire can destroy, but it can also purify, illuminate, and bring warmth. Let the fire of Christ renew our hearts and strengthen our commitment to His mission. Let it inspire us to become instruments of reconciliation in a divided world.
We cannot force everyone to believe as we do, but we can demonstrate the beauty of our faith through our actions. Let our kindness soften hardened hearts, our honesty inspire trust, and our compassion bring hope to those who feel forgotten.
May the fire of Christ never become a flame of anger or judgment within us. Instead, may it become a burning desire to love God, serve others, and live with integrity.
When the fire of Christ burns within us, we become courageous in faith, renewed in spirit, steadfast in truth, and generous in love. Let us carry this sacred fire wherever God sends us, trusting that even in a divided world, His transforming love can still bring hearts closer to Him.
