10/21/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reading: Luke 12:39-48
Jesus said to his disciples:
39 “Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into.
40 You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
41 Then Peter said, “Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?”
42 And the Lord replied, “Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute the food allowance at the proper time?
43 Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so.
44 Truly, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property.
45 But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk,
46 then that servant’s master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish the servant severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful.
47 That servant who knew his master’s will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely;
48 and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”

Living Faithfully While We Wait for the Lord
Jesus reminds His disciples to remain watchful and prepared because the coming of the Lord may happen at an unexpected time. He also teaches that those entrusted with greater responsibilities are expected to demonstrate greater faithfulness. The message is clear: we must not waste our time, neglect our responsibilities, or take God’s blessings for granted. Instead, we must live each day with faith, love, and a heart ready to meet Him.
Let us use the word HOUR as our guide to living faithfully.
H – Have a Heart That Is Always Ready
Being ready for the Lord does not mean living in fear of the future. It means living each day with a heart that is right with God. We do not know what tomorrow will bring, but we can choose how to live today.
Are we holding grudges against others? Are we postponing reconciliation because of pride? Are we neglecting our relationship with God because we are too busy with worldly concerns?
We should not wait for a crisis before we pray, a funeral before we express our love, or a great loss before we appreciate our blessings. A heart that is always ready is a heart that chooses goodness today.
O – Own Your Responsibilities
Jesus teaches us that those entrusted with responsibilities must be faithful in carrying them out. Every one of us has been given something valuable to care for: our family, our work, our ministry, our relationships, and the gifts God has placed within us.
Faithfulness is not measured only by how much we accomplish but also by how sincerely we fulfill our duties. A parent who lovingly cares for a child, a worker who performs an honest day’s work, and a church member who serves without seeking recognition are all examples of faithful stewardship.
We must stop comparing our responsibilities with those of others. Instead, let us ask ourselves whether we are doing our part with love and integrity. God does not ask us to do everything. He asks us to be faithful with what He has entrusted to us.
U – Use Your Time and Gifts Wisely
Time is one of God’s greatest gifts, yet it is something we can never recover once it has passed. We sometimes spend hours worrying about things beyond our control while neglecting the things that truly matter.
We have time to complain, but do we make time to encourage someone? We have time to criticize, but do we make time to help? We have time to pursue our ambitions, but do we make time for God and our loved ones
Let us use our talents, opportunities, and resources to make a positive difference. Even a small act of kindness can bring hope to someone who is struggling. Never underestimate what God can accomplish through a person who is willing to serve.
R – Remember That Greater Blessings Bring Greater Responsibility
The more God entrusts to us, the more accountable we become. Knowledge, influence, leadership, and material blessings are not merely privileges; they are opportunities to serve others.
If we know what is right, we must strive to do what is right. If we have the ability to help, we should not turn away from those in need. And if we are given leadership, we must lead with humility rather than pride.
We do not know the hour when our earthly journey will end or when we will stand before the Lord. But we can make sure that when that hour comes, we have spent our days loving God, serving others, and fulfilling our responsibilities faithfully.
The best preparation for meeting the Lord tomorrow is to live faithfully for Him today. Let every HOUR of our lives become an opportunity to love, to serve, and to glorify God.
