10/20/2026 (Tuesday) Today’s Gospel reading: Luke 12:35-38
Jesus said to his disciples:
35 “Gird your loins and light your lamps
36 and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
37 Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
38 And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.”

Theme: Living Ready for the Lord
In this Gospel, Jesus reminds His disciples to remain ready and alert, like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding feast. He emphasizes the blessing of those whom the master finds faithfully watching when he arrives, even if he comes late at night.
Surprisingly, the master will reward their faithfulness by serving them himself.
Jesus teaches us that a faithful servant does not simply wait for the master but lives each day prepared to welcome him.
Let us use the word SERVANT as our mnemonic to discover how we can live faithfully while waiting for the Lord.
S – Stay Spiritually Awake
Life can distract us with responsibilities, ambitions, entertainment, and worries. Sometimes, we become so occupied with earthly concerns that we forget our spiritual responsibilities. Staying spiritually awake means examining our hearts, nurturing our relationship with God, and recognizing His presence in our daily lives. We must not allow our faith to grow cold while we are busy pursuing success.
E – Embrace Every Opportunity to Serve
Being a servant of God is not limited to serving inside the church. We serve God when we help a struggling neighbor, comfort someone who is grieving, forgive those who hurt us, and show kindness to people who cannot repay us. Every ordinary day offers opportunities to do extraordinary things through love.
R – Remain Faithful Even When Nobody Sees
True faithfulness does not depend on recognition or applause. We must do what is right even when nobody is watching, appreciate our blessings even during difficult times, and continue serving even when our efforts seem unnoticed. Remember, people may overlook our sacrifices, but God sees the sincerity of our hearts.
V – Value the Time God Gives Us
We often live as though we have unlimited time. We postpone reconciliation, delay our good intentions, and promise ourselves that we will become better tomorrow. But tomorrow is never guaranteed. Let us use the time we have to love more deeply, forgive more generously, and serve more wholeheartedly. Readiness begins with what we choose to do today.
A – Act with Love, Not Fear
Waiting for the Lord should not make us anxious about the future. Instead, it should inspire us to live meaningfully in the present. We prepare for His coming not through fear alone but through love, obedience, and trust. A heart filled with love naturally desires to please the One who has given everything for us.
N – Never Give Up on Doing Good
Sometimes, serving others becomes exhausting. Our kindness may be misunderstood, our sacrifices unappreciated, and our prayers seemingly unanswered. Yet faithfulness means continuing to do good without allowing disappointment to destroy our generosity. We may not immediately see the fruits of our service, but every sincere act of love has value before God.
T – Trust the Master’s Promise
The most beautiful part of this Gospel is the master’s unexpected response: he serves the servants who remained faithful. This reminds us of God’s generous and surprising love. We serve not merely to receive a reward but because we belong to Him. Nevertheless, we can trust that our faithfulness is never wasted in His eyes.
We do not know when the Lord will call us to Himself. What matters is not predicting the hour but preparing our hearts. Let us live each day as faithful servants, ready to welcome Him through our love, goodness, and service.
May the Lord find us awake in faith, steadfast in hope, and generous in love, not only when He comes, but throughout every day He gives us.
