7/9/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel Reading: Matthew 10:7-15
7 Jesus said to his Apostles: “As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
8 Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.
9 Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts;
10 no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep.
11 Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave.
12 As you enter a house, wish it peace.
13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you.
14 Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet.
15 Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.”
7/9/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel Reflection / Homily / Sermon: Matthew 10:7-15
In this Gospel narrative, Jesus sends His disciples on their first missionary journey with clear instructions. Their mission is not to seek comfort, wealth, or recognition, but to proclaim God’s kingdom, bring healing, extend mercy, and offer peace wherever they go. They are reminded to depend completely on God’s providence rather than material security. They are also taught that while some will joyfully receive the Good News, others will reject it. Yet they must continue their mission with courage and faithfulness. This Gospel teaches every Christian that discipleship is not merely about believing in Christ but about becoming His messenger.
Let us use the word “PEACE” as a practical guide for living this mission every day.
P – Proclaim God’s Kingdom
The first responsibility of every disciple is to proclaim that God reigns. This proclamation is made not only through sermons but also through daily living. Our honesty in business, patience in suffering, forgiveness toward those who hurt us, and kindness to strangers become living testimonies that God is present among His people. The most convincing message is a transformed life. People are more likely to believe the Gospel when they see it reflected in our actions. Every Christian is called to become a visible sign of God’s loving rule.
E – Extend Compassion Freely
Jesus instructed His disciples to give generously because they had first received generously. God’s blessings are never meant to be stored only for ourselves but shared with others. We may not always have money to offer, but everyone can give encouragement, forgiveness, time, prayer, kindness, and hope. A visit to someone who is lonely, a comforting conversation with a grieving friend, or a helping hand to someone in need may become an instrument of God’s healing grace. The more freely we share God’s love, the more His compassion flows through us.
A – Abide in God’s Providence
The disciples were sent without depending on earthly possessions or excessive preparations. This was not an invitation to irresponsibility but a lesson in trust. Their confidence had to rest in God rather than in material security. Modern life often teaches us to depend solely on our savings, achievements, or abilities. While responsible planning is important, our deepest security must always come from the Lord. God faithfully provides what His servants truly need to accomplish His mission. Trust replaces anxiety when we remember that the One who sends us also sustains us.
C – Carry Peace Wherever You Go
One of the beautiful responsibilities of Christ’s followers is to become bearers of peace. Every home we enter, every workplace we serve, every classroom we attend, and every conversation we have offers an opportunity to build unity instead of division. Peace begins with our own hearts. When we allow Christ to remove resentment, pride, and bitterness, His peace naturally overflows into our relationships. A peaceful presence can calm angry situations, heal broken friendships, and strengthen families. The world desperately needs people who carry God’s peace instead of conflict.
E – Endure Rejection Without Losing Hope
Not everyone welcomed the disciples, and Jesus prepared them for that reality. Faithfulness does not guarantee acceptance. Sometimes our kindness will be misunderstood, our values criticized, and our efforts ignored. Yet rejection should never discourage us from continuing God’s work. We are responsible for sharing God’s love, not for controlling how others respond. When people refuse our message or reject our goodness, we entrust them to God and move forward without bitterness. Perseverance is one of the greatest marks of authentic discipleship.
As we reflect on this Gospel, we discover that Christ still sends His followers into today’s world. Every neighborhood, office, school, hospital, and family becomes a mission field where His love can be made known. The mission has not changed. God still calls ordinary believers to become extraordinary witnesses.
Whenever you hear the word PEACE, remember Christ’s mission: Proclaim God’s Kingdom, Extend compassion freely, Abide in God’s providence, Carry peace wherever you go, and Endure rejection with unwavering hope. Those who live this message become instruments through whom Christ continues to heal hearts, strengthen lives, and bring His kingdom closer to the world.
