6/25/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 7:21-29

Jesus said to his disciples:
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’
23 Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.’
24 “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.
26 And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.
27 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”
28 When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

6/25/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 7:21-29

This Gospel passage reminds us that faith is not measured merely by what we say but by how we live. At the conclusion of His teaching, Jesus emphasizes that a strong spiritual life is built on obedience, not just admiration. It is possible to hear inspiring words, attend worship services, and speak about faith, yet fail to put God’s truth into practice. The difference between a stable life and a collapsing one is not knowledge alone. It is action.

To remember this message, use the word “ACT” as a mnemonic.

A – Authentic Faith

Jesus teaches that genuine faith is more than religious words or outward appearances. A person may speak about God, participate in religious activities, and appear faithful before others, yet true discipleship begins with a sincere relationship with God. Authentic faith seeks not only to know God’s will but also to desire it. It is a faith that comes from the heart, marked by humility, trust, and a genuine commitment to follow God.

Many people enjoy learning about faith, but true transformation happens when God’s teachings are applied in daily life. A person may know what is right, but wisdom is revealed when that knowledge shapes decisions, attitudes, and relationships. Faith becomes visible when we choose honesty over deception, kindness over resentment, and forgiveness over bitterness.

God’s truth was never meant to remain in our minds alone. It is meant to influence our actions. Every day provides opportunities to apply what we have learned. The more we practice God’s teachings, the stronger our spiritual foundation becomes.

C – Construct Your Life on a Solid Foundation

Life is full of unexpected storms. Challenges, disappointments, losses, and uncertainties come to everyone. No one is exempt from difficult seasons. The question is not whether storms will come but whether our foundation can withstand them.

A house built on a firm foundation remains standing when strong winds and heavy rains arrive. In the same way, a life rooted in God’s wisdom gains strength and stability. Circumstances may shake us, but they do not have to destroy us.

Many people build their lives on temporary foundations such as popularity, wealth, achievements, or human approval. While these things may seem secure for a time, they cannot support us through every trial. Only a life anchored in God’s truth provides lasting security and peace.

T – Transform Belief into Action

The central lesson of this Gospel is that hearing alone is not enough. Real faith moves beyond words and intentions. It becomes visible through action.

A person who knows the value of prayer must pray. A person who understands the importance of love must show love. A person who believes in mercy must practice mercy. Spiritual growth occurs when belief is translated into daily choices.

The world is filled with people who admire good values, but God calls us to live them. Our character is shaped not by what we intend to do someday but by what we choose to do today. Small acts of faithfulness, repeated consistently, create a life that honors God and blesses others.

As we reflect on this passage, let us remember ACT: Authentic faith, Construct your life on a solid foundation, and Transform belief into action. When faith moves from our lips to our lives, we become strong, resilient, and prepared for whatever storms may come. A life built on obedience to God stands firm because its foundation is secure.
