6/27/2026 (Saturday) Today’s gospel reading: Matthew 8:5-17
5 When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him,
6 saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”
7 He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”
8 The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.
9 For I too am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him,
“Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.
11 I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven,
12 but the children of the Kingdom will be driven out into the outer darkness, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
13 And Jesus said to the centurion, “You may go; as you have believed, let it be done for you.” And at that very hour his servant was healed.
14 Jesus entered the house of Peter, and saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
15 He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she rose and waited on him.
16 When it was evening, they brought him many who were possessed by demons, and he drove out the spirits by a word and cured all the sick,
17 to fulfill what had been said by Isaiah the prophet: He took away our infirmities and bore our diseases.
7/1/2023 (Saturday) Today’s gospel reflection: Matthew 8:5-17
This powerful passage reveals the heart of Jesus as a healer, a restorer, and a Savior who responds to faith and human need. People from different backgrounds came to Him carrying sickness, pain, and burdens, and He responded with compassion and power. The word HEAL helps us remember the message of this Gospel.
H – Have Faith Beyond Circumstances
The Roman centurion faced a situation he could not fix on his own. Yet he believed that Jesus had authority greater than illness and suffering. His confidence was not based on what he could see but on who Jesus was. Life often presents problems that seem overwhelming—family struggles, financial worries, health concerns, or emotional pain. The Gospel encourages us to trust God even when circumstances appear impossible. Faith opens our hearts to God’s work and reminds us that His power is not limited by distance, time, or human weakness.
E – Embrace Humility
One of the most beautiful lessons in this passage is humility. The centurion recognized his own limitations and approached Jesus with respect and sincerity. True faith is not proud or demanding; it is humble and teachable. When we acknowledge our need for God, we become more open to His guidance and grace. Humility does not make us weak—it positions us to receive strength from the One who is greater than ourselves.
A – Act with Compassion
Jesus did not ignore the suffering around Him. He noticed the sick, the weak, and the hurting, and He responded with care. This challenges us to become people who see the needs of others. Compassion can be shown through a listening ear, a kind word, a helping hand, or a prayer for someone who is struggling. We may not be able to solve every problem, but we can reflect God’s love by caring for those who suffer. A compassionate heart becomes a channel of healing in a wounded world.
L – Live as a Witness of God’s Healing
The people who experienced Jesus’ healing were given a new beginning. Healing is not only physical; God also heals wounded hearts, broken relationships, fear, guilt, and discouragement. When God restores us, we are called to live differently. Our gratitude should be visible in the way we love, serve, forgive, and encourage others. A healed life becomes a testimony that points people toward God’s goodness.
The message of HEAL is clear: Have faith beyond circumstances, Embrace humility, Act with compassion, and Live as a witness of God’s healing. No matter what burden you carry today, remember that Jesus still sees, still cares, and still has the power to restore. Bring your needs to Him with trust, and allow His love to bring hope, strength, and renewal to your life.
