6/19/2026 (Friday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 6:19-23

Jesus said to his disciples:
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.
20 But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.
22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;
23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

6/19/2026 (Friday) Today’s Gospel reflection / sermon / homily: Matthew 6:19-23

This Gospel passage invites us to examine what we treasure most in life. Our hearts naturally follow what we value. If our greatest treasures are temporary things such as wealth, status, possessions, or human approval, we may find ourselves anxious, dissatisfied, and spiritually empty. But when we value God, His kingdom, and His ways above all else, our lives become filled with purpose, peace, and light.

A simple way to remember this message is through the word STORE.

S – Seek Eternal Treasures

The world encourages us to collect things that fade away. Yet the greatest treasures are those that cannot be lost including faith, love, kindness, generosity, integrity, and a growing relationship with God. These investments have eternal value.

T – Treasure What Truly Matters

Not everything that shines is valuable. Many people spend years pursuing success and comfort but neglect family, faith, and service. True wisdom is learning to treasure what lasts rather than what merely impresses others.

O – Open Your Eyes to God’s Perspective

Our spiritual vision shapes our entire life. When we focus on God’s goodness and truth, we see opportunities to love, serve, and grow. When our vision is clouded by selfish desires, envy, or greed, we lose sight of what is truly important.

R – Redirect Your Heart Daily

Our hearts can easily drift toward worldly distractions. Every day is an opportunity to realign our priorities through prayer, worship, gratitude, and acts of compassion. A heart directed toward God finds lasting joy.

E – Examine Your Priorities

What occupies your thoughts most often? What receives your time, energy, and resources? Honest self-examination helps reveal where your treasure really is. When God becomes our highest priority, everything else finds its proper place.

R – Reflect God’s Light

A life focused on heavenly treasures becomes a light to others. People notice humility instead of pride, generosity instead of selfishness, and hope instead of fear. Our actions become a testimony to the values we hold within.

The message of this Gospel is both simple and challenging: what we store in our hearts determines the direction of our lives. Temporary treasures may provide momentary satisfaction, but eternal treasures bring lasting fulfillment. Let us choose to store up faith rather than fear, generosity rather than greed, and devotion rather than distraction.

Today, ask yourself: “What am I truly storing in my heart?” The answer will reveal the path you are walking. Choose treasures that draw you closer to God, and your life will be filled with His light, purpose, and peace.
