7/27/2026 (Monday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 13:31-35
31 Jesus proposed a parable to the crowds. “The Kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a person took and sowed in a field.
32 It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.”
33 He spoke to them another parable. “The Kingdom of heaven is like yeast
that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch was leavened.”
34 All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables. He spoke to them only in parables,
35 to fulfill what had been said through the prophet: I will open my mouth in parables, I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation of the world.
7/27/2026 (Monday) Today’s Gospel reflection / sermon / homily: Matthew 13:31-35
The two parables reveal that God’s Kingdom often begins in ways that seem small and unnoticed, yet it grows beyond human expectation. Jesus uses the examples of a tiny seed and yeast mixed into dough to teach that God delights in transforming lives through humble beginnings rather than dramatic displays. He reminds us that what God starts may appear insignificant today, but with His power, it can influence countless lives tomorrow.
Use the word GROW as a simple reminder of how we can participate in God’s Kingdom.
G – Give Value to Small Beginnings
A tiny seed hardly attracts attention, yet it contains the potential to become a large tree. In the same way, God often begins His work through small acts of faith—a sincere prayer, a word of encouragement, a simple act of kindness, or a quiet decision to obey Him.
Many people wait until they have more resources, greater abilities, or perfect circumstances before serving God. But God is not limited by the size of our beginning. He simply asks us to offer what we have today. When we place even the smallest gift in His hands, He can multiply its impact far beyond our imagination.
R – Remain Faithful in the Process
Growth is rarely instant. A seed needs time to take root before anyone sees its beauty. Yeast works silently until the entire dough is transformed. Likewise, spiritual growth requires patience, perseverance, and trust.
There may be seasons when you feel that your prayers go unanswered or your efforts bear little fruit. Do not become discouraged. God is still working beneath the surface, shaping your character, strengthening your faith, and preparing you for greater fruitfulness. Faithfulness during the unseen stages often produces the greatest harvest.
O – Open Your Heart to God’s Transforming Power
The yeast changes every part of the dough from the inside. In the same way, God’s presence is meant to transform every area of our lives, not only our worship but also our thoughts, attitudes, relationships, work, and decisions.
True faith is not simply about outward appearances or religious activities. It is an inward transformation that gradually becomes visible in the way we love, forgive, serve, and live. When we allow God to work deeply within us, His character begins to shine through us.
W – Witness the Wonders of God’s Kingdom
As the seed grows into a tree, it becomes a place where others find shelter. God’s blessings are never meant to stop with us. A growing Christian naturally becomes a blessing to family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers.
People may never remember every sermon we preach, but they will remember the kindness we showed, the hope we shared, and the love we demonstrated. A life rooted in Christ becomes living evidence that God’s Kingdom is alive and active in the world.
God’s Kingdom continues to grow today through ordinary people who faithfully trust Him. Never underestimate the power of a small beginning, a patient heart, a transformed life, or a faithful witness. Every great tree was once a tiny seed, and every loaf was changed by a little yeast. In God’s hands, small acts of faith become extraordinary instruments of His grace.
Today, choose to GROW: Give Value to small beginnings, Remain faithful in the process, Open your heart to His transforming power, and Witness the wonders of His Kingdom. As you do, your life will become part of God’s beautiful work of bringing hope, faith, and blessing to the world.
