Jesus said to the disciples:
47 “The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.
48 When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away.
49 Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous.
50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
51 “Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.”
52 And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.”
53 When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.

The Kingdom of God invites everyone, but it also calls each person to make a response. In the Gospel reading above, Jesus compares God’s Kingdom to a large fishing net that gathers all kinds of fish. At the end, there is a separation between what is good and what is not. This powerful image reminds us that life is not only about being gathered into God’s family but also about becoming the kind of person God desires. Jesus concludes by highlighting the value of a disciple who understands God’s truth and wisely shares both old and new treasures. These lessons can be remembered through the word HEAD.
H – Honor God’s Kingdom.
The Kingdom of God is the greatest treasure we can ever belong to. It deserves our highest respect, our deepest love, and our daily commitment. Honoring God’s Kingdom means allowing His values to shape our decisions, relationships, and priorities. Instead of chasing temporary success alone, we seek to live in a way that reflects God’s goodness, justice, mercy, and truth.
E – Examine Your Heart.
The fishing net gathers everyone, but eventually there is a time of evaluation. This reminds us that God sees beyond appearances. He knows our motives, attitudes, and hidden thoughts. Rather than judging others, we are invited to examine ourselves regularly. Are we growing in kindness? Are we becoming more forgiving? Are we faithful when no one is watching? Daily self-examination helps us remain humble and open to God’s transforming grace.
A – Apply God’s Wisdom.
Jesus praises those who understand His teachings and become like wise stewards who bring out both old and new treasures. Knowledge alone is not enough. God’s Word becomes powerful when it is practiced. We honor the timeless truths of our faith while also discovering fresh ways to live them in today’s world. Every challenge becomes an opportunity to apply patience, compassion, honesty, and courage. Wisdom is revealed not merely by what we know but by how we live.
D – Distribute the Treasure.
The treasures of God’s Kingdom are never meant to be hidden. We are called to share them generously through our words, actions, encouragement, and example. Every act of kindness, every word of hope, every sincere prayer, and every moment of forgiveness becomes a priceless gift to someone else. Like faithful disciples, we enrich the lives of others by passing on what God has first placed in our hearts.
The word HEAD reminds us that following Christ involves both our minds and our hearts. We Honor God’s Kingdom, Examine our hearts, Apply His wisdom, and Distribute His treasures. When our “head” is guided by God’s truth, our hands will serve with love, our hearts will remain humble, and our lives will bear lasting fruit.
Today, ask yourself: What kind of treasure am I storing within me? Fill your mind with God’s wisdom, your heart with His love, and your life with faithful obedience. Then, when the day of accountability comes, you will not fear the final separation but rejoice as one who has lived faithfully in the Kingdom of God.
