6 Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces.
12 “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the Law and the Prophets.
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many.
14 How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few.”

6/23/2026 (Tuesday) Today’s gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Matthew 7:6, 12-14

This Gospel reading reminds us that following God is not merely about knowing what is right; it is about living wisely, treating others with love, and choosing the path that leads to true life. The world often encourages us to take shortcuts, seek comfort, and follow the crowd. Yet Jesus invites us to a higher way that requires discernment, compassion, and commitment.

A simple way to remember this message is through the word LAW.

L – Live with discernment.
Jesus teaches that not everything valuable should be treated carelessly. Wisdom means recognizing the value of God’s gifts, truths, and blessings. We should respect what is holy and use good judgment in sharing, speaking, and acting. Discernment protects us from wasting our energy on arguments that bear no fruit and helps us focus on what truly matters. A mature believer learns not only to do good but also to do it wisely.

A – Act with love toward others.
One of the greatest principles for daily living is to treat others the way we would want to be treated. Before speaking, ask, “Would I want these words spoken to me?” Before acting, ask, “Would I appreciate this treatment?” Imagine how different families, workplaces, schools, and communities would be if everyone practiced this principle. Kindness would replace harshness, understanding would overcome prejudice, and generosity would defeat selfishness. Love is not merely a feeling; it is a deliberate choice to seek the good of others.

W – Walk the narrow way.
The easier road is often the more popular one. It requires little sacrifice and little self-discipline. Yet Jesus points us toward a different path that may be challenging but leads to genuine peace, purpose, and eternal life. Walking the narrow way means making choices based on faith rather than convenience. It means choosing honesty when deception seems easier, forgiveness when resentment feels justified, and obedience when compromise appears attractive. Though fewer people may travel this road, it is the road that leads to lasting joy.

The message of this Gospel is clear: Live with discernment, Act with love, and Walk the narrow way. When we follow this LAW, we become people who reflect God’s wisdom and goodness in the world. Every day presents opportunities to choose between the easy way and the right way. May we have the courage to choose what is holy, the compassion to treat others with kindness, and the perseverance to remain faithful on the path that leads to life.

Let us always remember that the right path is not always the easiest path, but it is always the path that leads closest to God.
