The quote above is from Dale Carnegie. He was born on this day, November 24 in the year 1888 in the state of Missouri, USA. Born into poverty, he worked his way to school, rising as early as 3:00 am to feed the cows and other farm animals. After college, he was employed as a salesman for soaps, bacon and lard. Later, he resigned and worked as an actor in New York. After just one production, he found himself unemployed and nearly broke.

Dale made the decision to focus on teaching public speaking. He became very successful that he collected his lectures and was able to publish it in 1926. The first edition was titled “Public Speaking: a Practical Course for Business Men”. In 1932, he authored “Lincoln the Unknown”. In 1936, he published his book “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. It became an instant bestseller. At the time of his death in 1955, the book was able to sell five million copies! He went on to publish another self-help book entitled “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living” in 1948.
