Life Before Showbiz
Pokwang came from a poor family in Iloilo. Her father was a drunkard while her mother did whatever work is available to support her twelve children. Pokwang is the seventh.
In 1990, Pokwang went to Japan to work as a dancer. Since her contract was only for six months, she has to come back to the Philippines and re-apply for another six months. She returned to the Philippines for good after two years. At that time, she was pregnant with her first child.
Due to lack of work opportunities in the Philippines, Pokwang went to the Middle East to work as a domestic worker. In less than six months, her only son died in the Philippines. She was distressed because she cannot go home immediately to attend the funeral.
When she finally came back home, Pokwang found a job as a comedian in a bar in Quezon City. She met Eric Nicolas who convinced her to join a comedy contest at ABS-CBN television.
Showbiz Career
In 2004, Pokwang started her career in the entertainment industry when she joined and won Clown in a Million, a contest segment of Yes, Yes Show! television program of ABS-CBN. Since then, she appeared in many TV programs of ABS-CBN until 2021 when she transferred to GMA.
