History of General Tinio

The town got its named after revolutionary leader General Manuel Tinio, a native of Nueva Ecija Province. It was formerly called Barrio Mapisong, a territory of Penaranda and before that, it was known as Papaya, then part of Gapan. On June 20, 1957, it was created as a separate municipality by virtue of Republic Act No. 1665.
