History of Catarman
It is believed that the name Catarman is derived from the Turkish words “attar”, which means oil of the roses and “inman” or “aman” synonymous for Muslim holy men. It was given by the Muslim people who came all the way from Mindanao and settled in Northern Samar Island. The area was then called Ibabao. During the Spanish Occupation, it was one of the pueblos in the whole island.
