History of Concepcion
Concepcion used to be the capital of a “Commandancia” which is the equivalent of a sub-province located in the northeastern part of Panay Island. The Commandancia had since been absorbed by the province of Iloilo.
Economy of Concepcion
Concepcion is an agricultural town where fish and rice are the main products. At the town center called Poblacion, commercial activities such as trading and services are found. Manufacturing is limited to small scale production of handicrafts and processed food, repair of furniture and machineries as well as tailoring and hollow block making.
Concepcio is the home of a large coal-fired power plant. It is also the location of a busy fish landing port.
