History of Bayugan

Bayugan City was formerly a sitio of Barangay Maygatasan, Esperanza. On August 20, 1961, it was created as a municipality by virtue of Executive Order No. 440 signed by President Carlos P. Garcia with Mr. Mullaneda as the first appointed mayor. On June 21, 2007, it was elevated as a city through Republic Act no. 9405.

Bayugan is primarily an agricultural area. Rice, coconut, and corn are the traditional products but it is now a fast rising producer of cut flowers as well as banana and cacao.
