The town of Loreto was founded on January 1, 1919.
Economy of Loreto
Farming and fishing are chief economic activities in the municipality of Loreto. The local government is trying to develop commerce and tourism as alternative source of livelihood but the building of infrastructure is the priority at present.
Loreto is rich in mineral resources like aluminous laterite ore, chromite, gold, nickeliferous laterite, sand and gravel, guano, rock phosphate, limestone, and siliceous sand. However, some residents are opposed to the development of the mining industry.
