People always try to search for happiness outside of themselves. The truth is happiness is not found elsewhere. If we can not find it in ourselves, we will never find it anywhere. To be happy, all we need is to look inside us. For some people this is not easy because for the most part of their life, they developed the habit of being negative. But habits can be changed. Just try to be positive one moment at a time.
In our previous post, we stated that one way to be happy is to make others happy. Today, our happiness tip number 2 is to count our blessings instead of our misfortune. It is a fact that life is not at all a bed of roses all the time but it is not also a bed of thorns. What we need to do is to count the roses and accept that thorns are always there.
To help us with this tip #2, let us learn a particular song with the title “Count Your Blessings”. Here is the lyrics:
I
When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God has done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
II
Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by. (Refrain)
III
When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high. (Refrain)
IV
So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end. (Refrain)
And here’s a video of the song:
The author of the above song is Johnson Oatman, Jr., an American singer and songwriter.
Let us make a habit of being happy no matter what.
