Running as a reelectionist under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), he defeated 3-termer Kalibo mayor William Sucgang Lachica of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and two other independent candidates Pablo Dela Cruz Beltran and Felicisimo Yetyet Tanumtanum, Jr.
