Surigao Del Norte History

During the early part of the Spanish rule, Surigao was part of a district called Caraga. On May 15, 1901, the American administrators issued Philippine Commission Act 127 creating the province of Surigao. On September 18, 1960, the province was divided into Del Norte and Del Sur through Republic Act 2786.

Economy of Surigao Del Norte

Surigao del Norte is an agricultural province where rice, coconut, fish and corn are the main products. Mining is also one of its important industries. The provinces is the foremost producer of nickel in the country. Other mineral product from Surigao del Norte are gold and copper.

Since its discovery as a great surfing area, the island of Siargao is now one of the top tourist destinations not only for local visitors but also those coming from other countries.
