October 17 2026 Gospel Reading and Reflection

10/17/2026 (Saturday) Today’s Gospel reading: Luke 12:8-12

Jesus said to his disciples:
8 “I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before others the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God.
9 But whoever denies me before others will be denied before the angels of God.
10 “Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11 When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities,
do not worry about how or what your defense will be or about what you are to say.
12 For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say.”

Theme: Standing Firm in Faith and Trusting the Holy Spirit

Jesus teaches His disciples the importance of acknowledging Him before others, remaining faithful even in times of opposition, recognizing the seriousness of rejecting the work of the Holy Spirit, and trusting the Spirit to guide them when they face difficult situations. His message reminds us that following Him requires courage, sincerity, and unwavering faith, especially when our beliefs are challenged.

We can remember these lessons through the word TEACH.

T – Testify to Your Faith
Faith is not something we should hide whenever the world disagrees with us. Jesus calls us to acknowledge Him not only through our words but also through our actions, decisions, and relationships. We testify to our faith when we choose honesty over deception, kindness over cruelty, and forgiveness over revenge.

We do not need to stand on a stage or preach before a crowd to become witnesses of Christ. Sometimes, the most powerful testimony is the way we treat people who cannot repay us, how we respond when we are mistreated, and how we remain faithful when nobody is watching. Let our lives become living evidence of God’s goodness.

E – Endure Opposition with Courage
Following Jesus does not guarantee a life without difficulties. There will be moments when people misunderstand our intentions, ridicule our convictions, or question our commitment to God. Sometimes, even doing what is right can bring criticism instead of appreciation.

But we must remember that the approval of people is temporary, while faithfulness to God has eternal significance. We should not become aggressive toward those who disagree with us, nor should we abandon our principles just to gain acceptance. True courage means remaining loving, humble, and steadfast even when standing for what is right becomes uncomfortable.

A – Allow the Holy Spirit to Transform You
The Holy Spirit is God’s gift to guide us toward truth, strengthen our faith, and awaken our hearts to His presence. Jesus warns against the serious danger of rejecting the Holy Spirit, reminding us not to close our hearts to God’s transforming grace.

Sometimes, pride prevents us from admitting our mistakes. Anger makes us deaf to correction, while prejudice blinds us to the truth. When we continually resist God’s prompting, we risk becoming spiritually insensitive.

Therefore, let us cultivate humble and teachable hearts. When we recognize our faults, let us repent. When God invites us to change, let us respond. Spiritual growth begins when we stop defending our weaknesses and allow God to work within us.

C – Count on God’s Presence in Difficult Moments
Jesus assures His disciples that when they face accusations and opposition, the Holy Spirit will help them know what to say. This teaches us that we are not alone when circumstances become overwhelming.

Perhaps you are facing a difficult conversation, an unfair accusation, or a decision that requires wisdom. Instead of allowing fear to control you, trust God to provide the courage and clarity you need. This does not mean we should neglect preparation; rather, we prepare faithfully while depending on God’s guidance.

H – Hold Fast to Hope and Faithfulness
Our journey with Christ is not measured by how comfortable our lives become but by how faithfully we follow Him. There will be victories and disappointments, moments of confidence and seasons of uncertainty. Through them all, we must keep our hearts anchored in God.

Let us never be ashamed of our faith, discouraged by opposition, or resistant to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. May our words reflect Christ, our actions demonstrate His love, and our hearts remain open to His transforming grace.

Remember TEACH: Testify to your faith, Endure opposition, Allow the Holy Spirit to transform you, Count on God’s presence, and Hold fast to hope.

When the world challenges your faith, stand firm. When fear silences your voice, trust God. And when the path ahead seems uncertain, allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. For a life that faithfully acknowledges Christ becomes a powerful testimony that can inspire others to discover the same hope, courage, and love that sustain us.
