38 Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
39 She had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
40 Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.”
41 The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
42 There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

10/6/2026 (Tuesday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Luke 10:38-42

Jesus visits the home of Martha and her sister Mary. Martha becomes busy preparing and serving, while Mary sits quietly at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him. Martha eventually expresses her frustration because she feels she is carrying the work alone. Jesus gently reminds her that she is worried and distracted by many things, while Mary has chosen what is truly important. The story is not about condemning service but about learning to recognize what deserves our attention first.

M – Make Time for God

Life can become so busy that we give God only the leftovers of our time. We work, prepare, plan, communicate, solve problems, and serve others, yet sometimes forget to pause and simply be with Him. Like Mary, we need moments of silence and listening. Before we rush to accomplish everything, we should make time for the One who gives meaning to everything we do.

A – Avoid Anxiety

Martha was not wrong for serving. Her struggle was allowing her responsibilities to overwhelm her heart. We can experience the same thing. We may have many legitimate concerns, but constantly worrying about them can steal our peace. Not every problem needs to be solved immediately. Sometimes, faith means doing what we can and trusting God with what remains beyond our control.

R – Remember What Matters Most

There will always be another task, another message, another deadline, another responsibility. If we are not careful, we can spend our entire lives responding to what is urgent while neglecting what is important. Relationships, faith, love, peace, and time with God cannot always be postponed. What matters most deserves our attention today, not someday.

T – Trust God with the Unfinished

One reason we become anxious is that we want everything completed. But life rarely works that way. Some tasks will remain unfinished at the end of the day. Some questions will remain unanswered. Some plans will not happen as expected. We can still rest knowing that God’s work does not depend entirely on our ability to control everything. Trust allows us to say, “I have done what I can; now I place the rest in God’s hands.”

H – Hear Before You Hurry

Mary teaches us the importance of listening. Before speaking, reacting, deciding, or acting, we sometimes need to stop and listen—to God, to others, and even to our own hearts. A hurried life often produces unnecessary mistakes, while a listening heart discovers wisdom. We should not be so busy doing things for God that we forget to hear what God may be saying to us.

A – Appreciate the Presence of Jesus

The greatest blessing in Martha’s house was not the meal being prepared. It was the presence of Jesus. We can make the same mistake when we become so focused on what we are doing that we overlook the blessing already in front of us. God’s presence can be found in prayer, family, friendship, service, worship, and ordinary moments of life. We need eyes that recognize His presence.

MARTHA reminds us that a meaningful life is not measured only by how much we accomplish. It is also measured by how deeply we listen, trust, love, and remain connected to God. Let us serve without becoming consumed, work without becoming anxious, and accomplish our responsibilities without forgetting the One who gives them purpose.

Sometimes, the greatest spiritual lesson is not learning how to do more but learning when to stop, listen, and simply be with Jesus.
