10/1/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reading: Luke 10:1-12

1 Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit.
2 He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.
3 Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.
4 Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way.
5 Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’
6 If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.
7 Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another.
8 Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you,
9 cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.’
10 Whatever town you enter and they do not receive you, go out into the streets and say,
11 ‘The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake off against you.’ Yet know this: the Kingdom of God is at hand.
12 I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom on that day than for that town.”

10/1/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Luke 10:1-12

Theme: We Are Sent to Bring God’s Love

Jesus sends seventy-two disciples ahead of Him to the towns and places He intends to visit. He tells them that the mission is urgent and that they should depend on God rather than on material security. They are to bring peace, accept hospitality with gratitude, care for those in need, and announce that God’s kingdom has come near. Jesus also reminds them that not everyone will welcome their message, but rejection should not stop them from fulfilling their mission.

This story reminds us that being a follower of Jesus is not only about receiving blessings. We are also sent to become blessings.

S – SERVE

To be sent by Jesus is to serve. We do not need to wait for extraordinary opportunities to make a difference. Sometimes our mission begins with something very simple: listening to someone who is hurting, helping a tired coworker, visiting someone who is lonely, or encouraging a person who feels discouraged.

Jesus does not ask us to impress the world. He asks us to serve it with love.

E – EMBRACE

The disciples were sent into unfamiliar places, where they could not control how people would respond. Likewise, God sometimes sends us into situations outside our comfort zone.

We may be called to forgive when it is difficult, speak kindly when others are harsh, or step forward when everyone else is afraid. Being sent means embracing the opportunity to trust God even when we do not know exactly what lies ahead.

N – NOTICE

A person who is sent by God learns to notice people and their needs.

There are people around us who may be smiling while carrying heavy burdens. Someone may need encouragement but is too shy to ask. Someone may need forgiveness, companionship, or simply a listening ear.

Our mission is not always found in distant places. Sometimes it is sitting beside us at the dinner table, working next to us, or quietly passing us on the street.

When we notice people, we begin to see opportunities for God’s love.

T – TRUST

Jesus sent His disciples without giving them everything they might have wanted for the journey. They had to learn dependence, courage, and trust.

We also worry about having enough, such as enough money, strength, knowledge, time, or confidence. But God does not always give us everything in advance. Sometimes He gives us enough grace for the next step.

Trust does not mean that the journey will always be easy. It means believing that we do not walk it alone.

We Are SENT

The message of of this Gospel reading is not limited to the seventy-two disciples. It speaks to us today.

We are SENT to Serve with love, Embrace opportunities with courage, Notice those who need us, and Trust God along the way.

Wherever we are, whether at home, at work, in our community, or among strangers, we can become instruments of God’s peace.

We may never know how far one kind word, one helping hand, or one act of compassion will travel.

God has blessed us not only to receive His love, but to carry His love wherever He sends us.
