6/17/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reading: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

Jesus said to his disciples:
1 “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
2 When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
4 so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
5 “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
6 But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
16 “When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
17 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 so that you may not appear to others to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”

6/17/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reflection: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

Jesus teaches a powerful lesson about the difference between outward appearance and inward sincerity. He reminds us that acts of faith are not performances for people to admire but expressions of love offered to God. Whether we give, pray, or make sacrifices, what matters most is the condition of our HEART.

The word HEART can help us remember how to live authentic faith every day.

H – Humility before God

True spirituality begins with humility. It is easy to seek recognition for our good deeds, hoping others will notice and praise us. Yet genuine faith does not need an audience. Humility means doing what is right simply because it honors God. The most beautiful acts of kindness are often the ones known only by God and the person being helped.

E – Examine Your Motives

Before every act of charity, prayer, or sacrifice, it is good to ask: “Why am I doing this?” Are we seeking approval, admiration, or attention? Or are we acting out of love for God and concern for others? God sees beyond actions and looks into our intentions. When our motives are pure, even the smallest act becomes precious in His sight.

A – Authentic Relationship with God

Prayer is more than reciting words; it is spending time with God. Jesus invites us to cultivate a personal relationship with Him. Just as strong friendships are built through regular conversation, our relationship with God grows when we speak to Him honestly and listen to His guidance. Authentic faith is not about impressing others but about drawing closer to the One who loves us.

R – Remember God Sees in Secret

Many of life’s most important moments happen away from public view. A hidden prayer, a quiet sacrifice, a private act of generosity, or a silent struggle faithfully endured may go unnoticed by others, but never by God. This truth brings comfort and encouragement. We do not need applause from the world because God sees every sincere effort and understands every faithful sacrifice.

T – Treasure Eternal Rewards

Human praise is temporary. Compliments fade, recognition is forgotten, and popularity changes. But the blessings that come from pleasing God have lasting value. When we focus on eternal rewards rather than temporary approval, we gain freedom from the need to impress others. We learn to serve, pray, and give with joy because our hearts are fixed on something greater.

Today, let us examine our HEART. God is not looking for perfect performances but sincere devotion. He values humility more than attention, authenticity more than appearances, and love more than recognition. When our giving is generous, our prayer is genuine, and our sacrifices are offered with a pure heart, we discover the joy of living for God alone.

Always remember that the greatest acts of faith are often the ones seen only by God. So, before doing any good deed today, pause for a moment and offer it quietly to God.
