Dr. Ederson de los Trino Tapia is a highly distinguished Filipino professor, academic administrator, and public administration scholar recognized for his contributions to the fields of local governance, public policy, and regional integration.
Dr. Tapia completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) before pursuing extensive postgraduate education. He earned an International Master in Regional Integration (IMRI) with distinction (Dengan Cemerlang) from the Asia-Europe Institute at the University of Malaya, during which he also completed an internship and special studies at King’s College London. Additionally, he obtained a Master’s degree in Philippine Studies (External Relations) from the Asian Center at the University of River (UP) and went on to complete his Doctor in Public Administration (DPA) degree from the UP National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG). To further augment his leadership background, he attended specialized training in local governance at the National Institute for Development Administration (NIDA) in Bangkok and leadership studies at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in Tokyo. Professor Tapia boasts a prolific career spanning high-level university administration, national policy consulting, and academic instruction. He serves as the Vice President for Academic Affairs (and formerly the Vice President for Planning and Research) at the University of Makati (UMak). Concurrently, he serves as the Dean of UMak’s College of Continuing, Advanced and Professional Studies (CCAPS), having previously steered the university’s College of Governance and Public Policy (CGPP). Beyond his commitments at UMak, Dr. Tapia is a Faculty Fellow at the Development Academy of the Philippines-Graduate School of Public and Development Management (DAP-GSPDM) and a Professorial Lecturer at UP-NCPAG, where he teaches both undergraduate and graduate coursework. His leadership extends across prominent national networks; he is the President of the Philippine Society for Public Administration (PSPA) where he recently launched the 2025 PSPA Governance Caravan to promote civic engagement and ethical stewardship among the youth. He also serves as the Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the Philippine Councilors League – Legislative Academy (PCL-LA).

He sits on the editorial boards of various academic journals across the Asia-Pacific region and was recognized as the Aquilino Q. Pimentel Jr. Professor of Governance at UMak. He also serves as a critical resident expert for local and international media outlets, regularly providing political analysis on pressing national issues such as legislative leadership shuffles and impeachment proceedings.
Demonstrating his commitment to public service in multiple capacities, Dr. Tapia is also a commissioned reserve officer in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Army.
