5/6/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reading: John 15:1-8

1 Jesus said to his disciples: I AM the true vine; and my Father is the vine grower.
2 Every branch in me, that bears not fruit, he will take away: and every one that bears fruit, he will purge it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now you are clean by reason of the word, which I have spoken to you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abide in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in me.
5 I am the vine; you the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone abides not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burns.
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask whatever you will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 In this is my Father glorified; that you bring forth very much fruit, and become my disciples.

5/6/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: John 15:1-8

Jesus presents a powerful image of Himself as the source of life and growth, describing His followers as branches that draw strength from remaining connected to Him. He explains that true fruitfulness comes not from striving alone, but from abiding in that life-giving relationship. Without that connection, efforts become empty; with it, life becomes meaningful and productive.

For each individual, this is an invitation to examine where your strength truly comes from. It is easy to rely on talent, plans, or personal determination, but these can only go so far. There are moments when you feel drained, unproductive, or lost, and often it is because you have been trying to do everything on your own. Staying connected to God means making space for Him daily through prayer, reflection, and quiet trust. It means allowing Him to shape your character, even through challenges that feel like pruning. Growth is not always comfortable, but it is always purposeful. When you remain rooted in Him, your life begins to bear fruit such as peace in chaos, patience in difficulty, kindness in conflict, and strength in weakness. These are signs of a life deeply connected to its source.

For the world at large, this message speaks to a deeper kind of transformation. Society often celebrates independence and self-sufficiency, yet we see the consequences of disconnection including division, unrest, and emptiness. A world that forgets its source struggles to produce lasting goodness. But when communities and nations choose to reconnect with values rooted in love, truth, and humility, something begins to change. Relationships are restored, justice is pursued with compassion, and progress becomes more than just material gain; it becomes meaningful and life-giving.

Imagine a world where people are not driven solely by ambition, but guided by a deeper connection to what is good and true. Such a world would bear fruit that lasts: peace instead of conflict, generosity instead of greed, unity instead of division. This transformation begins not on a global stage, but in the quiet decision of each person to stay connected to the source of life.

In the end, fruitfulness is not about how much we achieve, but about what kind of life flows through us and into others. Stay connected, remain grounded, and trust that a life rooted in God will always bear lasting fruit.
