Pedro’s career began in the 1970s with his first company, Aluminum Containers, Inc., which became the major local supplier of collapsible aluminum toothpaste tubes for multinational giants like Colgate-Palmolive and Unilever. When these multinationals switched to plastic tubes around 1985, his business was forced to close. Showing great resilience, Pedro used his existing factory equipment to pivot into manufacturing his own product, founding Lamoiyan Corporation in 1988, naming it after his paternal grandmother (Lamoiyan is her Cantonese name). The company became known for introducing high-quality, but affordably priced, products like Hapee and Kutitap toothpastes to compete directly with foreign brands, later expanding into household care with brands like Dazz and Fash.
Cecilio Pedro has now passed the corporate reins to his son, Joel Conrad Pedro.
A deeply devoted Christian, his faith is a major influence on his leadership, driving his company’s motto, “Making the difference for the glory of God.” This commitment is seen in his significant philanthropic work as Chairman of the Deaf Evangelistic Alliance Foundation Inc. (DEAF), which provides scholarships for hearing-impaired students. Lamoiyan Corporation is also renowned for its progressive employment program, which includes hiring and providing free housing for a significant number of deaf individuals. His accomplishments have been recognized with numerous honors, including being named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) in Business Entrepreneurship in 1991.
