Career
Godwin Langbayan started the sport at the age of 26 in 2015 while working as an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Japan, having been encouraged by a Brazilian coworker after gaining weight. He was already familiar with martial arts as his brother, Gibran Langbayan, is noted as the first Igorot Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt champion and is a trainer at Lions Nation Mixed Martial Arts. Langbayan holds the rank of Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu, which he achieved in 2024, promoted by Professor Stephen Khampius. His career is distinguished by several significant international achievements, including bringing home two gold medals from the 2024 Sports Jiu-Jitsu Federation (SJJF) World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Nagoya, Japan, despite battling a knee injury. He has successfully transitioned his skills to multi-sport competitions, representing the Philippines in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, where he is a two-time medalist: he previously won a bronze medal in Kun Bokator in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, and added a second SEA Games bronze medal in the Jiu-Jitsu Men’s -62kg fighting class at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. He trains at Valiant MMA and Fitness Gym and is affiliated with Baguio Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
