High Profile Cases Handled
Atty. Angelito “Lito” Magno, a seasoned investigator with decades of service at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), has been involved in several of the Philippines’ most high-profile and sensitive cases. Among the notable investigations he either led or significantly supported is the high-stakes probe into the killing of late Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and eight others in March 2023. He was also a key figure in the investigation of the MT Princess Empress oil spill in Oriental Mindoro in 2023, which demanded an in-depth, inter-agency effort. Magno also oversaw the investigation into the controversial religious group Socorro Bayanihan Services Inc. (SBSI) and its president, Jey Rence Quilario, known as “Senior Agila.” Earlier in his career, he was part of the 2010 investigation and subsequent shootout that led to the capture of road-rage suspect Jason Ivler. More recently, he was among the officials who spearheaded the operation that resulted in the arrest of then-embattled Bamban Mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia, as she faced legal issues in the Philippines. Furthermore, his extensive experience includes investigations into various extrajudicial killings of lawyers, politicians, and journalists, and he was involved in the case against notorious Australian pedophile Peter Scully. As NBI Officer-in-Charge, he also oversees the bureau’s active participation in the government’s pursuit of suspects in the anomalous flood control projects controversy.
