April 26 2023 Gospel Reading with Reflection

4/26/2023 (Wednesday) Today’s gospel reading: John 6:35-40

35 Jesus said to the crowds: I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall not hunger: and he that believes in me shall never thirst.
36 But I said unto you, that you also have seen me, and you believe not.
37 All that the Father gives to me shall come to me; and him that comes to me, I will not cast out.
38 Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 Now this is the will of the Father who sent me: that of all that he has given me, I should lose nothing; but should raise it up again in the last day.
40 And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.

The gospel reading above is very clear that it is the will of God that you and I and anybody else will have everlasting life. That has always been His plan since the very beginning when He decided to create man. Yet we have rebelled against Him and through sin, we lost the life He envisioned. Not everything is lost however. He continued to pursue us with love and compassion. To make the story brief, He sent His only Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

*****

Each individual is precious in the eyes of God. That is why He wants everyone to be saved. It is His will that everyone of us comes to Jesus His Son and no one will be rejected. It doesn’t matter who we are or what our past had been like. So long as we come to Him, He will accept us. He will feed us, nourish us, and raise us on the last day. That’s the most wonderful promise anyone can hear.

So we have the invitation: Believe in Jesus because in Him alone can we have everlasting life! He is the ultimate food and drink that will nourish us forever. Without Him, we will die of spiritual hunger and thirst. To reject Him means to miss the chance for salvation.
