The town of Alfonso Castañeda was named after the the first Governor of Nueva Vizcaya. It was created on April 20, 1979 by virtue of Batas Pambansa No. 27 sponsored by then Assemblyman Carlos Padilla and approved by President Ferdinand Marcos.
