Miuccia Prada and her Fashion Empire

On May 10 in the year 1949, Maria Bianchi Prada, better known as Miuccia, was born in Milan, Italy. She is the youngest granddaughter of the founder of the Prada fashion house, Mario Prada. Forbes lists her as one of the richest Italian billionaires with a net worth of $2.6 billion as May 10, 2017, down from $12.4 in 2013. She is now the Co-CEO of the Prada empire together with her husband Patrizio Bertelli. She is also the chief designer of the company.

Miuccia finished PhD in political science from the University of Milan then trained as a mime for five years. She took over the management of her family’s fashion empire in 1978. She launched her own handbag design in 1985. Later, she introduced ready-to-wear women’s and men’s collection. In 1992, she set up a womenswear subsidiary which she named after her own nickname, Miu Miu.

At Present, the Prada conglomerate includes leather goods, shoes, fragrances, and apparel for both men and women. It has a worldwide network of branches in many countries with strong presence in the US, Europe, China and Brazil. As of May 15, 2020, Prada S.P.A. has a market capitalization of $62.05 billion.
