History of Milagros

Masbate was one of the original municipalities of Masbate Province. It is the mother town of Balud, Mandaon, and Cawayan.

In 1903, Milagros had a population of 6,674 which increased to 33,502 in 1948. By the year 2,000, the number of people in the town reached 44,575 and by 2015, the count stood at 57,473.

Economy of Milagros

Milagros is primarily an agricultural town where rice, fish, seaweeds, coconut and root crops are the main products. There are some cattle ranches in the municipality. Some families also raised chicken and hogs.

In the town center are located wholesalers and retailers. Like other municipalities, Milagros has its own eateries, bakeries, tailoring and dressmaking shops, repair centers and beauty parlors.

The town of Milagros is rich in mineral resources such as manganese, gold, copper, silver, and white clay. The town is an exporter of manganese to Japan.

Tourism is still undeveloped in Milagros.
