“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” – Psalm 9:9-10
One thing that we can learn from the Coronavirus pandemic is that no one is immune. Everyone – rich or poor, young or old, can be infected. The rich can no longer depend on their money and the old and educated can not trust their worldly wisdom to save them.
For the needy and the oppressed, they are blessed because the Lord is their refuge. (See the beatitudes – Matthew 5:1-12, Luke 6:20–23)
The pandemic is showing us our vulnerability and insecurity. May it teaches us not to be independent but to be dependent on the power and goodness of the Almighty God, our creator. In this time of trouble, we have no one to turn to for help except the Lord. He is our only stronghold.
