Pila, Laguna History
The town was already settled long before the coming of the Spaniards. In 1575, Pila was part of an encomienda (land grant) awarded to Don Felizardo Rivera who is now considered the founder of the town. The pueblo was formally organized on July 29, 1578.
In 1903, a census was taken and a total of 6,040 residents were recorded.
In 2008, Pila was one of the location of reality show The Amazing Race Asia 2.
Economy of Pila Laguna
Pila is a predominantly agricultural town where rice, vegetables, chicken, egg, pork, and fish are the main products. Cottage industries include the production of home-made foodstuff and baked goodies, furniture and vehicle repair, and tailoring. The town has been a traditional location for pilgrimage and movie production due to the presence of heritage houses and centuries-old church.
