Do you know where the first Thailand’s successful cloned cow was done? It was right here at Suranaree University of Technology, one of the top research universities in Thailand .

Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) is located in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat). Established in 1990, it was named after Thao Suranari, a local heroine. As a public institution, it aims to provide more higher education opportunities to people in the surrounding provinces who have no means to study in Bangkok. Currently, it is one of nine National Research Universities of Thailand, enrolling around 15,000 students every year. It offers bachelor, master, and Phd programs in the sciences.

In 2018, SUT garnered the top five among universities in Thailand according to the Times Higher Education ranking.

SUT is the home of the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI) that conducts advanced research on physics and related fields. In 1993, it opened the Institute of Research and Development to manage and coordinate the university’s research and development affairs. Moreover, the university put its own science park, technopolis, and the Surasammanakarn hotel and convention center in order to support its different programs and community-building. Its agricultural farm includes a butterfly park, vineyard and livestock barn featuring Thailand’s first cloned oxen.
