Chiang Mai University (CMU) is one of the top universities in Thailand. It is located in Chiang Mai, a province in the northern region of the country. It is actually the first provincial university in Thailand. Established in 1964 as a public institution, it has since given strong emphasis in the fields of engineering, science, agriculture, and medicine. It has 3 campuses in Chiang Mai and a fourth in the province of Lamphun.
In the Times Higher Education ranking of universities, CMU was ranked number 2 for Thailand in the 800 – 1000 bracket. Around 36,000 students enrol here every year. There are 20 faculties and one college in three disciplines namely:Science and Technology, Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and Health Science.
One of its many famous alumni is Yingluck Shinawatra, 28th Prime Minister of Thailand.
