October 8 2026 Gospel Reading and Reflection

10/8/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reading: Luke 11:5-13

Jesus said to his disciples:
5 “Suppose one of you has a friend to whom he goes at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,
6 for a friend of mine has arrived at my house from a journey and I have nothing to offer him,’
7 and he says in reply from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been locked and my children and I are already in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’
8 I tell you, if he does not get up to give him the loaves because of their friendship, he will get up to give him whatever he needs because of his persistence.
9 “And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
10 For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 What father among you would hand his son a snake when he asks for a fish?
12 Or hand him a scorpion when he asks for an egg?
13 If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

10/8/2026 (Thursday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Luke 11:5-13

Theme: God Answers the Heart That Seeks Him

Jesus teaches His disciples about the importance of persistence in prayer. He tells the story of someone who goes to a friend at an inconvenient hour to ask for bread. At first, the friend does not want to get up, but because of the visitor’s persistence, the request is eventually answered. Jesus then encourages His disciples to ask, seek, and knock with confidence, reminding them that God is a loving Father who knows how to give good things to His children.

The message is simple but powerful: when we pray, we should never give up. God may not always answer according to our timetable, but He is never indifferent to the needs of His children.

Let us use the word FIND to reflect on this beautiful teaching.

F – FAITH THAT PERSEVERES

Prayer requires faith, especially when the answer seems delayed. There are moments when we pray repeatedly for healing, guidance, provision, peace, or a solution to a difficult situation, yet nothing appears to change. That is precisely when faith becomes most meaningful. Perseverance tells God, “I still trust You even when I cannot see the answer.” Persistent prayer is not about forcing God to act; it is about allowing our trust in Him to grow stronger.

I – INSIST ON HOPE

There are times when disappointment tells us to stop hoping. We may feel that our situation is impossible or that our prayers are going nowhere. Jesus reminds us not to surrender to discouragement. Keep bringing your hopes to God. Keep believing that tomorrow can be different from today. Hope keeps the heart open to possibilities that we cannot yet see.

N – NEVER STOP SEEKING GOD

Sometimes we seek God only when we need something. But prayer is more than presenting a list of requests. It is a relationship. When we seek God, we discover His presence not only in answered prayers but also in moments of silence, waiting, unexpected opportunities, loving people, and quiet strength. Sometimes the greatest answer to prayer is not receiving what we requested but discovering that God has been walking with us all along.

D – DEPEND ON THE FATHER

Jesus ends this teaching by pointing to the goodness of God as Father. Human parents, despite their limitations, know how to give good things to their children. How much more does our heavenly Father care for us? We can therefore approach God without fear. We can bring Him our worries, dreams, failures, questions, and deepest desires.

Today, whatever you are praying for, FIND your strength in God. Have Faith that perseveres. Insist on hope when circumstances are difficult. Never stop seeking God, even when the answer seems delayed. And Depend on the Father, knowing that His love never abandons you.

Your prayer may not be answered in the way you expect or at the time you desire. But never believe that your prayer is wasted. Every sincere prayer brings you closer to the God who listens, loves, and walks beside you.

Keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep trusting. Keep believing. In God’s time and in God’s way, you will FIND that you were never alone.
