1 Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,
2 and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
3 He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither walking stick, nor sack, nor food, nor money, and let no one take a second tunic.
4 Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there.
5 And as for those who do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake the dust from your feet in testimony against them.”
6 Then they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the good news and curing diseases everywhere.
9/23/2026 (Wednesday) Today’s Gospel reflection / homily / sermon: Luke 9:1-6
Theme: Sent to Make a Difference
Jesus sends His twelve apostles on a mission. He gives them authority over evil and the power to heal. He instructs them to proclaim God’s kingdom and serve people in need. Yet, He also reminds them to travel lightly, depending not on material possessions but on God’s providence.
This passage reminds us that God does not call us merely to receive blessings. He calls us to become blessings to others. Through the word POWER, let us discover how we can live out our mission as followers of Christ.
P – PURPOSE: Remember Why You Are Called
Every person has a purpose in God’s plan. The apostles were not sent on a journey without direction. They were given a mission to bring hope, healing, and transformation.
You may not be a preacher, a missionary, or a church leader, but you have a purpose wherever you are. Your workplace, family, community, and friendships can become places where God’s love is revealed.
Do not underestimate the importance of your presence. Sometimes, your kindness is the answer to someone’s silent prayer.
You are not simply living each day. You are being invited to make each day meaningful.
O – OPENNESS: Trust God Beyond Your Comfort Zone
Jesus sent His apostles into places they had never visited, among people they did not always know. They had to step beyond what was familiar and comfortable.
God’s calling often begins where our certainty ends. We may hesitate because we feel unprepared, inexperienced, or unworthy. But faith does not require us to know every detail of the journey.
Sometimes, God reveals the next step only after we take the first one.
Be open to new opportunities, unexpected encounters, and unfamiliar responsibilities. What seems like an interruption may become an important part of your mission.
When God opens a door, do not let fear become the reason you remain outside.
W – WITNESS: Let Your Life Speak
The apostles were sent to proclaim God’s kingdom and bring healing. Their mission was not simply about speaking; it was about demonstrating God’s love through their actions.
Today, people may forget our words, but they often remember how we made them feel.
Your patience with a difficult person, your generosity toward someone struggling, and your willingness to forgive can become powerful testimonies of faith.
You do not need to perform extraordinary miracles to make a difference. Sometimes, listening without judgment or offering encouragement can help heal a wounded heart.
A life shaped by love can become a message that others desperately need to hear.
E – ENDURANCE: Continue Even When You Are Rejected
Jesus prepared His apostles for the possibility that some people would not welcome their message. Not everyone would understand or appreciate their mission.
Likewise, not everyone will accept your kindness, recognize your efforts, or support your dreams.
Do not allow rejection to convince you that your mission has no value. Your responsibility is to remain faithful, not to control everyone’s response.
There will be days when your efforts seem fruitless. Keep going. God sees what others overlook.
Rejection may close one door, but it does not cancel your calling.
R – RELIANCE: Depend on God, Not on Possessions
Jesus instructed His apostles to travel without depending on an abundance of material provisions. This taught them to trust God and the hospitality of others.
In a world that often measures success by wealth, possessions, and influence, this message remains relevant.
Preparation is important, but excessive worry about what we lack can prevent us from using what we already have.
You may not have much money, influence, or knowledge, but you can offer your time, compassion, talents, and faith.
God can accomplish beautiful things through humble people who place their gifts in His hands.
You may feel that you have little to offer, but when surrendered to God, even the smallest gift can become a source of blessing.
The Gospel passage reminds us that being a follower of Christ means being willing to go, serve, heal, encourage, and trust.
We are not called to remain comfortable spectators in a world that needs hope. We are called to become instruments of God’s love.
The POWER God gives us is not meant to make us superior to others. It is meant to help us lift others up.
So, wherever life sends you, remember your PURPOSE, remain OPEN, become a living WITNESS, persevere with ENDURANCE, and place your RELIANCE on God.
You may not be able to change the whole world, but through God’s grace, you can change someone’s world today.
