21 At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.”
23 But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.”
24 He said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
25 But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.”
26 He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”
27 She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.”
28 Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Theme: GREAT Faith Never Gives Up
The encounter between Jesus and the Canaanite woman is one of the most inspiring stories of faith in the Gospel. She was an outsider, a mother with a hurting daughter, and someone who seemed to face one obstacle after another. At first, Jesus did not answer her. The disciples wanted to send her away. Even His words seemed to test her faith. Yet she refused to give up. Instead of becoming offended, she remained humble, persistent, and confident that Jesus was merciful. In the end, her request was granted, and her daughter was healed. Her story reminds us that faith is not measured by how quickly prayers are answered but by how faithfully we continue trusting God.
The word GREAT can help us remember how to develop this kind of faith.
G – Go to Jesus first.
When trouble came, the woman did not rely only on her own strength or search everywhere for answers. She went directly to Jesus. Life often tempts us to worry first, complain first, or seek human solutions before seeking God. While wise advice and practical action are important, our first step should always be to bring our burdens to the Lord. Every challenge becomes lighter when it begins with prayer.
R – Remain persistent.
The woman refused to quit, even when it seemed her prayer was ignored. Many people stop praying because they think silence means rejection. But God’s silence is not always His refusal. Sometimes He is strengthening our faith, preparing our hearts, or working behind the scenes. A seed does not grow overnight, yet it is growing even when unseen. Likewise, persistent prayer shows that our trust is deeper than our emotions.
E – Embrace humility.
The woman did not demand blessings as though she deserved them. She approached Jesus with humility, recognizing her need for His mercy. Pride closes the door to God’s grace, but humility opens it wide. When we admit our weaknesses, confess our dependence on God, and surrender our own plans, we become ready to receive His greater purpose. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves; it is thinking more of God’s greatness.
A – Accept God’s timing and wisdom.
The woman did not dictate how or when Jesus should answer. She trusted Him even while waiting. We often expect immediate solutions, but God sees the complete picture while we see only a small part. Delays can shape our character, deepen our faith, and prepare us for blessings that are far greater than what we originally imagined. Trusting God’s timing requires patience, but it always produces lasting fruit.
T – Trust until the breakthrough comes.
The woman’s faith was rewarded because she continued trusting until the very end. She did not allow discouragement, rejection, or delay to define her future. God honors hearts that continue believing even when circumstances seem impossible. Your breakthrough may not come today, but every prayer offered in faith is heard. Keep trusting, keep hoping, and keep following Christ. What seems impossible to us is never impossible for God.
Today, whatever burden you carry, be it a struggling family, financial need, illness, unanswered prayer, or broken relationship, remember the example of this courageous mother. Go to Jesus, Remain persistent, Embrace humility, Accept God’s timing, and Trust until your breakthrough comes. That is GREAT faith, and GREAT faith always rests in the GREAT Savior.
