8/3/2026 (Monday) Today’s Gospel Reading: Matthew 14:22-36
22 Jesus made the disciples get into a boat and precede him to the other side of the sea, while he dismissed the crowds.
23 After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone.
24 Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.
25 During the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them, walking on the sea.
26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified. “It is a ghost,” they said, and they cried out in fear.
27 At once Jesus spoke to them, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
28 Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
29 He said, “Come.” Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
30 But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32 After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
33 Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, “Truly, you are the Son of God.”
34 After making the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret.
35 When the men of that place recognized him, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought to him all those who were sick
36 and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed.
8/3/2026 (Monday) Today’s Gospel Reflection / Homily / Sermon: Matthew 14:22-36
Walking with Faith Through Every Storm
Life is filled with moments when the sea is calm and moments when the waves become overwhelming. In this passage, the disciples found themselves struggling against strong winds while Jesus came to them in the middle of the storm. Peter also experienced the joy of walking on the water, only to begin sinking when fear replaced faith. Later, many people sought Jesus, believing that even the slightest contact with Him could bring healing, and they were restored. This story reminds us that faith is not about living without storms but about walking with the One who is greater than every storm. The word WALK helps us remember how to live with courageous faith.
W – Welcome Jesus into your storms
The disciples were terrified because they did not immediately recognize who was coming toward them. Fear often distorts our vision. We assume we are alone when, in reality, God is already moving toward us.
Instead of allowing panic to control your heart, welcome Jesus into every difficult situation. Invite Him into your worries, your family struggles, your financial concerns, your ministry, and your future. His presence does not always remove the storm instantly, but it gives peace in the middle of it. A storm with Jesus is safer than calm waters without Him.
A – Act in faith despite your fears
Peter’s first steps on the water were impossible by human standards, yet they became possible because he trusted Jesus enough to step out of the boat. Faith is not the absence of fear; it is choosing obedience despite fear.
Many dreams remain unrealized because people never leave the comfort of their “boat.” Whether God is calling you to forgive, to serve, to reconcile, to begin a new ministry, or to trust Him with an uncertain future, faith always requires action. Miracles often begin with one courageous step.
L – Look to Jesus, not to the waves
Peter began sinking only after shifting his attention from Jesus to the wind around him. The circumstances had not changed, the waves were already there but his focus changed.
The same happens in our lives. When we constantly stare at our problems, fear grows larger than faith. But when our eyes remain fixed on Christ, hope becomes stronger than our circumstances. Challenges may still surround us, but they no longer define us. Our focus determines whether we live in fear or in confidence.
Every day, intentionally fix your heart on God’s promises rather than on life’s uncertainties. Where your eyes remain, your heart will follow.
K – Keep reaching for Jesus
Even when Peter began to sink, he did the wisest thing possible; he reached out for help. Jesus immediately lifted him up. The story ends with people eagerly reaching for Jesus, believing that even the smallest touch would change their lives, and they were healed.
The lesson is simple: never stop reaching for Christ. When you succeed, stay close to Him. When you fail, run back to Him. When you are weak, seek His strength. When you are broken, trust His healing. His hands are always ready to lift, restore, and strengthen those who come to Him.
Walking with Jesus does not guarantee a storm-free life, but it guarantees that you will never face life’s storms alone. Welcome His presence, act in faith, keep your eyes on Him, and never stop reaching for His hand. As you WALK with Him each day, you will discover that the One who rules the wind and the waves is also faithfully leading every step of your journey.
